One of the premiere attractions to any good natural science museum is its dinosaur exhibit. Whilst many of us have seen dinosaurs on television and in the films, not to mention the numerous books on the subject, there is nothing quite like seeing fossils of dinosaurs first hand. It is not until you experience standing next to a life size reconstruction of a large dinosaur that you really begin to appreciate the awesome scale and power of these creatures. Many museums offer tours that display the dinosaur remains in different sections that outline the period of history in which they are thought to have existed. In some cases there will also be interactive exhibits such as robotic dinosaurs that allow children to control the movements through a keypad.

Another interesting exhibit that many natural science museums are offering these days is a Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body exhibit. Based on the biology of human and animal life these exhibits deal with the slimy, oozy, crusty and stinky elements of human and animal life, but do so in a very professional and child friendly manner. There will usually be a mixture of interactive exhibits such as the Human Skin wall, where warts, hairs and wounds provide hand or foot holds that will allow you to climb up it, or the Vomit Center which answers the question of "Why do humans vomit?" and let you watch digested food pass through the gastrointestinal system in an X-ray machine. Also sure to be a firm favourite with the kids the burping exhibit, where they can help a larger-than-life cartoon character release a giant burp by pumping soda pop from a 3-foot can to make him increase his stomach pressure.

A natural science museum visit is a must for all the family. They are typically very child friendly, offering plenty of rest stops and play areas for children to burn off some of that extra energy. They also offer lots of learning opportunities for both child and parent alike. All in all, a trip to a natural science museum is one that should not be left off of the summer to do list. So pencil it in today!
